Etsy Massacre Shop of the Month for December 2012 - ImmortalVisions

Looking for a unique gift or card to give to that special ghoul this holiday season? Well look no further as our Etsy Massacre Shop of the month, ImmortalVisions has everything your little gothic heart desires!

What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?
My favorite horror item right now is my made to order recipe book. It's so bizarre, makes no sense at all, but seems to appeal to people with a dark sense of humor anyway. They are so fun to make and would make a great gift with recipes included inside.

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art?
Horror movies have always inspired me in some way. I was just your normal card and scrapbook maker until I tried to "darken" my Christmas cards one year and could find nothing to use for supplies. I had to do a lot of design research and gather of offbeat elements to accomplish it. I realized there may be others out in the world with the same problem and geared my work toward old gothic horror, inspired by Hammer films sets and old school monster movies.

Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?
I joined the Etsy Massacre Team in hops of finding like minded artists. It's kind of lonely out here in Weirdo Land and it's so great to discover others with the same tastes!

Etsy Massacre Shop of the Month for November 2012 - ZombieMommy74

If you love creepy dolls, look no further! ZombieMommy74 has all you need for your frightening doll collection! Give thanks this November for this awesome shop of the month!

What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?
My favorite horror related item in my shop right now would be Sam, my Trick 'r Treat tribute doll. I love the movie and I think he turned out great. And he walks which is pretty awesome!

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art?
Ever since I can remember I have loved horror movies. I would take Slumber Party Massacre over something like The Notebook any day. Watching them inspires me to make something to honor them and the fact that someone would spend money on something that I love to do amazes me.One of the dolls that I sold on etsy will be featured in a movie that is being shot now in Japan. It doesn't have a name yet but I've seen some pictures of her on the set and it looks super spooky.

Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?
I was searching for horror related stuff and I came across a lot of team members items. It looked like the perfect place for me!

Etsy Massacre Shop of the Month for October 2012 - LttleShopOfHorrors

October is a VERY special month for the Etsy Massacre Team and what better shop to feature this month then LttleShopOfHorrors who supplies "accessories for the alternative chick"

What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?
My favorite horror related item in my shop at the moment is my Frankenlover bracelet. I am obsessed with Frankenstein and his Bride!

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art?
I absolutely love horrors movies, classic, modern, even the cheesy b movies! I'm inspired by the fact that they portray the darkness & morbidness around us, rather than portraying everything as sunshine & lollipops. I've always been drawn to things that are dark, unknown & just plain horrifying!

Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?
I joined the Etsy Massacre Team because I was invited by our Creepy Captain. It wasn't a hard decision, considering this team is inspired by everything I love! It's awesome to have a group of people who can share similar loves without being looked down upon! I am greatful for the invite that led me to join this deliciously "evil" group of people!

My Kind of Ghoul

On this day, September 17th, in 1951 a gal was born who would change the way people enjoyed B Grade horror films. This gal I am talking about is Cassandra Peterson who is the one and only Elvira, Mistress of the Dark! This Kansas native grew up to accomplish many amazing things her in life time thus far. She is the youngest person to perform as a Las Vegas Show Girl (she was 17, before you get your mind in the gutter), she has traveled the world, starred in films, had a music career, had her own television program, and has even had her own reality show!

Since the 80's, Cassandra has embodied this character of a strong woman who speaks her mind and takes crap from no one! She is one kitschy lady with a fondness for the dark side of life and doesn't let others keep her down. Elvira shakes things up, stands her ground, and looks  frightfully fierce doing it! Cassandra created a character that I will always adore and hold close to my heart.

From one Ghoul to another, Happy Birthday, Cassandra!

Etsy Massacre Shop of the Month September 2012 - MacabreCreations

A kick ass creation by former student
Nichol Cotroneo during a special fx mask
making course by MacabreCreations
Our shop of the month is MacabreCreations and what perfect timing it is with Halloween around the corner. You can either buy a unique creepy creation from the shop or sign up for classes to make your OWN creepy creations! How awesome is this!!

What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?
My favorite movie related item would be my special effects mask making courseThe reason I like my to teach these courses is I love unlocking the secrets of creating effects. I teach techniques that once acquired, empowers the participant to be able to create movie quality items. In this case you don't just end up with some mask ... but you get a killer mask that you created from scratch, you get a reproduction of your own face captured in time that you can keep as a piece of art, or use to sculpt on and create other awesome monstrosities, and most importantly of all ... you take home the skills and confidence to be able to make anything that you can dream up!

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art?
I love horror movies ... I particularly enjoy being submersed into the environments that the filmmakers create ... these dark worlds. To me it is all about the details. I try to reflect that in my artwork. I strive to create items that look cool from a distance and add to the ambiance, but when you get up close and can really see the details the art pieces come alive!

Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?
I joined the Etsy Massacre Team for two reasons. The first is our Captain Livingdeadgirlnicole! We had been on a couple other teams together and when I saw she was creating a place on Etsy for lovers of Horror Movies, I knew that was something I wanted to be part of. The second reason ... duh ... I LOVE HORROR MOVIES!

Looking for the not so typical horror movie inspired images for the walls of your home? Check out DarkArtPhoto's haunting images that will linger into your nightmares and make you feel like your visualizing what it would feel like being the victim of a horror film!!!

What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?

My favorite horror related item is StrangleHold
While none of my photos are related or taken from any specific horror film, many have horror inspiration. This one depicts a creepy masked person literally reaching out of the photo to strangle you.

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art?

I have always liked horror movies, from way back when I was a kid and would peek through covered eyes when it seemed to scary. I enjoy putting together scenes or images that elicit those same feelings and emotions.
Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?
I joined Etsy Massacre Team to be a part of a community that shares that love of horror and work together to learn and help each other in this fun place known as Etsy.

Etsy Massacre Team - Shop of the Month for July 2012 - ChewsBrains

From Zombies you can add to your stuffed animal collections to zombies you can wear on your gruesome bodies check out ChewsBrains our Etsy Massacre Team - Shop of the month!!
What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?
My set of Bride of Frankenstein/Frankenstein Cameo Necklaces. My favorite movie of all time, seconded by the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. I enjoy the other movies for their inspirational qualities, softness, and true musical scores. True culture!

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art??
EVERYTHING. The blood, gore, guts, and the realism that may of these movies portray. I miss the classics however. I miss when you used to be scared by the old black and white movies, the old monster makeup. It seems to take more and more to scare people these days. The best of these "old" movies was The Haunting of Hill House (1963) Directed by Robert Wise. A true psychological horror movie. No blood, no gore---just good old SUSPENSE!!!

Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?
I joined because I thought it would be awesome to team up with a group who shared my love on older horror movies and new! So we could all promote out items and work together!

Horror Movie light boxes

I created these new items they are horror movie light boxes, each is made from a sturdy repurposed cigar box, each comes with a energy efficient bulb and 3ft of cord so you can hang it on the wall or put it on a table. The bulb is easily changed by sliding off the front lens. I made light boxes that made sense to me, like the poltergeist light box, it is the scene right before carolanne gets sucked into the TV. The second light box creation is the scene where danny from the shining is cursing around the overlook hotel and runs right into the twins, I played with several photos in photoshop to get the effect !check out all of my scary stuff at  http://www.etsy.com/shop/sacchetto

Etsy Massacre Shop of the Month - June 2012 - HerDyingBreathStudio

Looking for the most unique paintings or photography for your home? Need that horror decor to darken things up a bit? Then check out HerDyingBreathStudio, our Etsy Massacre Team - Shop of the month!

What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?

I don't really have a favorite item in my shop, I love all of my work equally; they are all my little ghoulish children. Most of my work is iconic movie figures and characters from classic film and fairytales cast into a horror genre. I like taking something innocent and adding a monstrous twist to it. I guess right now the most recent painting is "If I could Only Eat your Brains". Its my take on scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz. It just mad sense to me to make that character into a zombie since he spends the whole film searching for brains.

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art??
When I first started pursuing career in art I was really influenced by comic art and anime. I went to college to study illustration and animation and had every intention on becoming a comic artist or animator. However as I pushed forward into tattooing and fine art more and more I looked towards horror films for reference rather than illustrations. I guess as I matured as an artist I wanted to give my work a more detailed realistic feel. I went through a phase in my early 20's where I was obsessed with foreign horror movies and that impacted my work tremendously. There has been something lacking in American horror films for a long time now. Lately it seems all American horror has to offer is re-makes of the classic horror films or they butcher a foreign horror film and release it in the US. Directors in Korea and Japan really push the envelope in gore dept, they just don't hold back.

Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?
I joined the Etsy Massacre team because I was invited to do so. I guess my shop was discovered and the people here enjoyed my work enough to ask me to join. It's always nice to meet and discover other dark fantasy artists

Etsy Massacre Shop of the Month - May 2012 - grul666

Night on the town? Looking for something to wear in your hair.. or how about some pomade to make it sick! While your at it top off your outfit with a belt buckle and then deck out your car in decals that express your love for horror! Well you can do that all if you shop from grul666, our Etsy Massacre Team - Shop of the month!

What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?

I'd have to say it's our Multi-Purpose Putrescence! It's not really horror-movie related, but it is horror inspired. I had actually been working on it for the past 6 years or so, but with alcoholism taking over much of my life at the time it never came to fruition. I'm happy to say that I am sober now and have put alcohol behind me. I had been using dax wave and groom for the longest time but living in so-cal the weather would melt my quiff. So i figured, I can make one better! and I did, I am absolutely proud of it and I use it every damn day! I'm like Cy Sperling for Putrescence Pomade, "I'm not only the creator, I'm also a client!" Ha-Ha!

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art??Wow, I have to thank my grandma for that! She's been dead for 10 years. But it was her, I remember this one time she took me to go see Return of the Living Dead 2 in Glendale when I was about 9 (I had actually chosen that over a bike for my b-day!). We'd always go Downtown to the beautiful old theaters like the Orpheum, the State and the Los Angeles and check out the triple features. I remember we'd get there at around noon and leave at around 6pm! Those were the days! Triple features of horror movies in a classic theater! There's something about horror that has always kept me inspired, like "What if that monster under the bed were real? Would it eat me like a Critter, or be friends? like Maurice from Little Monsters" I remember being in the 3rd grade and drawing pictures of Freddy Krueger with the words "Burn to read" back when the whole "reading is fun-damental" campaign was going on. I've always been a horror nerd, I loved freddy/jason when I was a kid. I guess, it's the whole not knowing, like in real life, you can't depend on there being another day. Life is beautiful, it's a wonderous gift that should be cherished and lived to the fullest. Seeing all those people die sometimes senseless deaths makes you appreciate the things you have (or don't have) even more. Plus, you know it's not real (my mom told me that when we went to go see a re-release of TCM when I was 4!), that's how it inspires me personally. In my art, I just think death/horror is a really big part of life. It's always there, omnipresent. Your never gonna get away from it so why not embrace it? Plus, horror is really cool:) Just keep telling yourself...It's only a movie...It's only a movie...

Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?

I really liked the context of the group and the other members seemed pretty cool (and they are!). I really like the idea of other sellers with similar interests coming together as a team. Especially when it's horror related! Now, all we need to do is rent a real store-front and sell our stuff there! I think it should be called "From hell"! I think if we can decide on a place we can all pool our resources together and make this happen! Complete world abomination!

Celebrating John Waters

If you ask anyone who knows me, they will tell you that I am hopelessly addicted to director, John Waters. He is the original Pope of Trash and is responsible for cult classics like Serial Mom, Cecil B. Demented, Female Trouble, Hairspray, and Pink Flamingos. If you love shock value and can stomach trash then you should check out his earlier films.

This past fall I met him, again, at a horror convention is Gettysburg, PA and got to hear him do one of his talks.
Myself and a friend with John Waters at a horror convention.

Since he was speaking at a horror convention he talked about horror movies from past to present and even what he thinks the future of horror might have in store. He talked about his childhood obsession with The Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz and his desire to have green skin and about his favorite horror film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. What can I say, he is my kinda man.

The famous mustache
This month, on April 22nd, John Waters turns 66 years young. To celebrate this man of my dreams I am giving you 20% your entire purchase at my shop! The code is JOHNWATERS66. This code will expire Sunday, April 22nd at midnight. Take advantage while you can!

hand painted captain spaulding bag

this bag was a pain to create, i had to keep freezing the movie because I wanted to create a medley of scenes from the very beginning of the film . Its where you first see the museum and gas station. This movie inspired a lot of my work , the fish girl bag the gator girl bag, inspired by fishboy. I love the counter culture aspect of the whole look and feel of the movie and I wanted to try and apply this feeling to the bag. This bag is baked and sealed for protection, I plan to do a few pairs of shoes as well.

Dead Girl Discussions....

New LinkedIn Professional Group/Discussion Board for Artwork By Living Dead Girl Nicole!
That's right...I thought a LinkedIn Group would be a great way for me and my Freaky Fanatics to discuss my art on a professional level. I don't do Facebook and other social media type sites anymore as I don't like people in my personal business and I like to keep my personal life seperate from my business life.
LinkedIn however is a professional site for people looking for work and to spread the word with their connections to get work, jobs etc. Therefore I have a resume on there and I only connect with people that I work with professionally. This Group/Discussion board is a great way for people to inquiry, comment or connect with me to hire me for work. It is also a place where customers aka Freaky Fanatics can go to discuss work I have done for them or to inquiry about more work as well.
Also make sure to check out the promotions section because group members will get special coupon codes for my Etsy Shop too! So go join! I have already started various discussions based on the various types of art work that I do.
You can use this link to get there
or click on the Dead Girl Discussions link on the top of my website - http://www.artworkbylivingdeadgirlnicole.com/

Etsy Massacre Team - Shop of the Month for April 2012 - RudeandReckless

Looking for some unique zombie finds or just unique finds in general... then check out RudeandReckless our Etsy Massacre Team - Shop of the Month for April!!

What is your favorite horror movie related item in your shop at this very moment and why?

My favorite horror movie themed item is my zombie repellent soap. I am a HUGE fan of zombie films and it's practically impossible for me to just pick one as my favorite, Just the thought of a zombie apocolypse is seriously frightening to some and it really makes you think what would would you really do if that situation were really upon us.

What is it about horror movies that inspires you and your art?

As far as inspiration, horror films bring out a creative edge. Being a fan of gore and general creepiness, It helps me to constantly challenge myself, to make things look more real, or if i'm making body parts, more anatomically correct. I am big into sculpting creatures, and horror films generally bring a new realm of special fx to the table that you wouldn't see in most films, other than the fantasy genre.

Why did you join the Etsy Massacre Team?

Originally I was invited to join the Etsy Massacre team and after finding more of what the team was about, I became enthralled at the thought that there were other creative individuals just like myself. Who were as big into the horror genre as me. Its great knowing im not alone in my likes, and its wonderful having others to share with, as well as keep me motivated to create more horror themed items. Which I never intend to steer away from :)
